Running is a dance; it takes a while to learn the steps
We descend from runners who were great on their feet in order to survive.
So why are we so bad at running now?
Running over logs is an excellent exercise to practice good pace and stride,
Long before we developed projectile weapons, we survived by using our fantastic distance running to chase prey into heat exhaustion.
So, what went wrong? Here is the bitter irony:
Endurance gave our brain the food it needed to create extraordinary technology, but now that technology is undermining our endurance.
Your brain is constantly whirring in search of energy-saving shortcuts.
Forget about how much or how fast you can run, think exclusively about how well:
- How light is your landing?
- How balanced is your body?
- How rhythmic is your cadence?
Put down the paint roller and pick up the brush; running is calligraphy, a series of precise and tiny brush strokes. If it feels like a struggle, you need to look under the hood.
When your muscles are shaking like a paint mixer, it´s common to think that it´s a strength issue. It is probably not, it´s neuromuscular – a disconnect between brain and body.
